The story behind the price
A pre-owned piano's price tells the full story when you connect it to the piano's condition, touch and sound, and to what is included once it arrives home. At the Zohar Pianos store and gallery, 28 Ben Atar, you can compare pianos side by side and see real prices on the pianos in the room.
What goes into the comparison
The piano and its condition. Upright or grand, height or length, the condition of the action and strings, and what has been serviced. With a pre-owned piano, its mechanical condition and the care it has received over the years say more than the name on the fallboard or the year it was made. Two pianos of the same model can feel completely different.
Size. A taller upright and a longer grand get longer strings and a larger soundboard, which you hear in the depth of the sound and which is reflected in the price.
Where it was made. Brands such as Yamaha and Kawai manufacture in several countries. The serial number identifies the model, year and place of manufacture. On an upright it is usually found on the gold iron frame behind the top lid, or stamped into the wood of the inner side panel.
Touch and sound. An even touch across the whole keyboard, a sound with depth, and pedals that move freely and quietly. Here the comparison becomes personal: the piano you love to play is the one that will repay the investment every day you play.
What is included. Moving, a first tuning at home, a bench, and support after delivery. Every piano move we do is fully insured from start to finish with comprehensive coverage, at no extra cost - so you are covered, protected and completely at ease. When two prices look close, what they include completes the picture.
How to compare during a visit
The most accurate comparison happens in one room. Come with an overall budget in mind - piano, moving, tuning and bench - and a short list of what matters to you: height, touch, sound or look. Choose two or three pianos in the same range, and play the same short piece on all of them, in the same room. The difference is audible within minutes. A piano teacher who comes with you can add a professional impression of the sound and touch, and our team will gladly explain what you are hearing and what each price includes.
For each piano, ask when it was last tuned, what has been serviced, and where it came from. Ask to see the inside too - the hammers, strings and soundboard. These answers turn a number on a label into a story you can understand.

What makes a piano good value
A piano that is good value is one you will love to play for years. An even touch, a sound that suits the room, an action in good condition and support after delivery turn a price into an investment in music at home. Japanese pianos such as Yamaha and Kawai are known for keeping their quality for decades when tuned and cared for, which makes them a favourite pre-owned choice. And sometimes a tall upright in excellent condition is exactly what the room asks for - the playing will tell.
Pre-owned or new
A well-kept pre-owned piano often offers a high level of playing within a given budget. A new piano offers a fresh, known start, such as Alexian pianos, for which Zohar Pianos is the exclusive importer in Israel. Either way, you decide after you listen. More on this: new or pre-owned piano.
Start with rental
