Kawai, refined Japanese touch
A Kawai piano carries a long tradition of uprights and grands, from one of Japan's largest piano makers. At the Zohar Pianos store and gallery, 28 Ben Atar, Tel Aviv, you can play Kawai pianos, compare them with other pianos in the same room, and choose the piano that suits you.
Stock is constantly renewed. Prices, years of manufacture and the condition of each piano appear on the product pages: upright pianos.
Kawai in the store
At 28 Ben Atar you will mainly hear Kawai acoustic uprights, such as the KU-3B, and sometimes a grand too, according to stock. Looking for a specific model, height or finish that suits the room? Tell us in advance, and we will have what is available to play ready for you. You are welcome to come without a model in mind, too, with just a sense of what you love.
Japanese pianos are known for precise craftsmanship and a sound and touch that hold beautifully for decades when tuned and cared for regularly. That is one of the reasons Kawai and Yamaha pianos accompany so many homes and piano teachers.
Model, manufacture and year
Kawai manufactures in several countries, including Japan, the United States and Indonesia, and some models were built in more than one place. So we look at the specific piano. The serial number identifies the model, year and place of manufacture. The model is usually also found on the gold iron frame, and the brand name on the inside of the key cover.
With a pre-owned Kawai, its mechanical condition and the care it has received say more than the year it was made. We will gladly go over every detail with you beside the piano.
What to check when playing
Sit and play each piano for a minute or two, and the same short piece on two pianos one after another. Listen to the bass, the middle and the treble, and pay attention to the touch: a slow scale, and the same note softly and loudly. Play with the pedals too. At the end, a moment of silence - which sound stays with you.
Two Kawai pianos of the same model can feel different, depending on their years and care, so choose by the piano under your hands. If you are torn between two, return to each of them once more at the end of the visit.
Who Kawai suits
A Kawai accompanies beginners beautifully, as well as children starting lessons, advanced students and seasoned players. The match depends on the height, condition and sound of the specific piano, and on the room where it will stand: a taller upright gets longer strings and a larger soundboard, and a full sound for the living room. Tuning, usually once a year, and stable humidity of about 40%-50% preserve the sound over time.
Compare in the same room
Kawai alongside the Yamaha U is one of the most interesting comparisons you can make during a visit: two characters of sound and touch, the same room, the same piece. In the store you will also hear Alexian pianos, for which Zohar Pianos is the exclusive importer in Israel. More on this: Yamaha pianos · how to choose an upright piano.
