Renting a Digital Piano for Home: What to Check Before You Choose

Renting a digital piano for home brings a full 88-key keyboard into your living room or study, for a period you decide. At Zohar Pianos, rental starts from 199 ₪ a month, a chair comes with it, and there is no commitment. In this guide we go through what to check in a model, how to prepare a corner for it, and what to do about headphones and connecting to a computer.

Why rent a digital piano

A digital piano is built for everyday practice at home. You can play it on headphones at any hour, set the volume with a turn of a knob, and it is ready to play the moment it is plugged in, with no tuning. Renting lets you try all of this in your real routine: who plays, at what hours and how often. After a few months of practice it becomes clear whether to stay with digital or move to a full acoustic sound. It is also a lovely way to get to know playing up close: which hours of the day suit you, how long you like to sit at the keys, and which sound you prefer.

What to check in a model

The first thing is the touch. On a quality digital piano all 88 keys are weighted, heavier in the bass and lighter in the treble, just as on an acoustic piano, and the sound responds to how firmly you press. Your fingers grow stronger and moving to any other piano feels natural. Play a familiar piece softly and loudly and feel how the keys respond to each. The differences between the action types are explained in our guide weighted keys. Then listen through the speakers and on headphones, and check that the pedals respond as your foot expects; the role of each is in our guide piano pedals.

A corner for the piano at home

A stationary digital piano is more compact than an upright, so it finds a place even in a small room or a work corner. Choose a wall with a power socket within reach, leave room in front for the chair and the player, and plan a little surface beside it for a tablet, sheet music or a glass of water. The power cable and a connected pedal need only a little floor space. If you play mostly on headphones, it can stand in a bedroom or a child's room too, since nobody else at home hears the practice.

Headphones and connecting to a computer

Good headphones make practice a personal, full experience. Many models, including our Alexian pianos, have two headphone jacks, so a teacher and student can listen together. The store has a range of headphones, for example the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x, and choosing them is covered in our guide headphones for a digital piano. Connecting to a computer or tablet opens learning and recording apps, and a simple USB-MIDI cable is all it takes. Every step is in our guide connecting a digital piano to a computer.

How long to rent

Home rental suits a few months of learning and practice, and you can also rent for a few days when you need a piano for a shoot or a recording. The price is set by the model and the period, and we will gladly suggest what fits you. At times the Alexian digital grand piano is also available to rent, bringing the look of a grand into the room. When you finish, let us know by phone, WhatsApp or email and we arrange a pickup time. And if you fall for the acoustic sound, the details are on our piano rental page and in the guide buy or rent.
