Piano Rental for Teachers and Studios: What Matters in the Teaching Room

Renting a piano as a teacher fits the moment your teaching room starts filling up with students: opening a home studio, moving to a new apartment, or getting to know a grand piano before deciding to buy. At Zohar Pianos, monthly rental starts from 199 ₪ a month, and you are free to end it whenever you like. Here you will find how to choose the type of piano, where to place it, and how to set up a good corner for the student.

Which piano suits lessons

In a home teaching room, a professional upright is an excellent choice. A tall model, around 120 to 130 cm, brings longer strings and a larger soundboard, so a rich bass and a balanced middle, all along a single wall. A teacher with advanced students will gain from a grand piano: its action has a repetition lever that lets you strike the same key again while it is still on its way up, so trills and fast repeated notes come out precise. The differences between actions are explained in our guide piano action, and the terms of grand piano rental are built around the piano you choose, the dates and the needs of your studio. On your visit, play the scales and arpeggios you teach every day and notice how the touch feels after half an hour of continuous playing.

For evening lessons or practice before a student arrives, a digital piano with two headphone jacks, like our Alexian pianos, lets teacher and student listen together. Choosing one is covered in our guide renting a digital piano for home.

Where the piano goes in the teaching room

An upright stands against an interior wall with a gap of 10 to 15 cm behind it. A grand piano sounds its best in the middle of the room or at an angle in a corner, with at least a metre in front of the keyboard, so the teacher can see both the student and the door. A Yamaha rule of thumb: add up all the walls in the room, and the sum should come to about ten times the length of the piano. Exact measurements are in our size guide. Bookshelves, a rug and a curtain scatter the sound and keep it clear through hours of lessons. In a studio where parents wait during the lesson, a small seating corner at the side keeps the student focused and the family connected. Keep the piano away from a sunny window, the air conditioner and a door that opens every quarter of an hour, and hold humidity at 45 to 50 percent, as explained in our guide care and humidity.

Bench, footrest and lesson accessories

Students of different heights sit on the same seat, so an adjustable bench is the heart of the teaching corner, for example our adjustable piano bench with metal legs. Adjust it until the elbows of the player sit close to key height, with the student perched toward the forward part of the seat. For children whose feet do not yet reach the floor, the pedal extender for children also works as a steady footrest and brings the pedals closer. A second chair for the teacher beside the student and a pyramid mechanical metronome on the piano complete the room. More on seat height in our guide piano bench.

Rental period, ending and credit

Many teachers plan the year around the school year, and monthly rental lets you match the period to it. At the end, send us a message on WhatsApp or by email, or call, set a pickup day, and payments stop once the piano is back with us. If you fall in love with the piano you can buy it, and then up to six months of rent are credited as it becomes yours. All the details are in our guide rental credit toward purchase.
