Piano Rental: The Steps from Booking to Return
Piano rental step by step passes through five stations: a visit and a choice, the move, tuning, the months of playing at home, and finally a return or a purchase. At Zohar Pianos, renting an acoustic piano for home starts at 199 ₪ per month, and the length of the rental is your call. Here is the order of things, so you always know what comes next.
Visiting and choosing a piano
It all starts when you come in to see us: our store and gallery are on Ben Atar 28. Play different upright pianos one after another, compare touch and tone, and let us know who is going to play and which room the piano is going to. Bring the measurements of the wall you picked at home, and your piano teacher is welcome to join you and play too. Questions about the type of piano are covered in choosing a rental piano, and if you would like to practise with headphones, you can go for a digital piano rental, which comes with a chair. At the end of the visit we go over the rental agreement together, and the piano you chose begins its way to you.
Bringing the piano home
After you choose, we set a date with you for piano moving, anywhere in the country. To plan the route, send us the address, the floor, details about a lift or stairs, and a few photos of the entrance. At home, pick a corner along an inside wall, clear of direct sun through a window and of the AC vent, and clear an open path from the door to that spot. Every piano move we make is covered by comprehensive insurance, end to end and free of charge, so you stay covered, protected and entirely at peace.
On moving day the team arrives with the right equipment, wraps the piano and carries it along the route planned in advance, right to the place you prepared. An upright goes in standing, and a grand piano gets its legs and pedals back in the room itself. It helps if someone from the household is there to show exactly where the piano will stand. Once it is in place you can already lift the lid and play the first tune.
Tuning after placement
An acoustic piano is built of wood, metal and felt parts, and these materials adjust to the moisture level and the warmth of their new room. That is why we recommend waiting one to two weeks after the move, and only then booking a piano tuning. During those days the piano gets used to your home, and the tuning that follows holds well over time. A tuning visit takes between two and three and a half hours, depending on the piano, and you set the date with us in advance.
Playing and humidity at home
This is where the best part begins: playing at home, on your own schedule. Regular playing is good for the piano too, as the action keeps working and responding. Keep the humidity in the room steady, in the 45-50 percent range, and our guide care and humidity shows how. Between sessions, a quilted protective cover for upright pianos keeps dust off the finish. An adjustable piano bench lets everyone who plays at home set the height that suits them. Throughout the rental you can write to us or call whenever something comes up, whether it concerns the piano or the next step. We are here for you.
Buying during the rental
Sometimes after a few months it is already clear that this piano is staying. You can buy it, and up to six monthly rent payments go toward the price, provided you buy while the piano is still in your home. And if your playing has grown and another model from the store suits you better, the credit moves with you to that one too. The calculation is explained in our guide on rental credit, and the two paths side by side in buy or rent.
Pickup when the rental ends
When you decide to finish, let us know on WhatsApp, by phone or by email, and we set a pickup day together. Monthly payments stop on the day the piano returns to the store, and the month of return is billed in full, so you can plan the pickup towards the end of the month.
